Drumming

Yesterday and today we practised playing some rhythms on drums.  First we made sure we were holding the drums correctly and had a go at tapping the top and edge of the drum, playing rhythms based on our favourite breakfast cereals, e.g do-you-like-cheer-i-os and do-you-like-porr-idge.

Then we watched a video of a teacher showing us three simple rhythms that are used in traditional drumming in West Africa. He also chanted as he played which made it easier to remember the patterns. We tried to play them in time with each other, and also mixed up the order!  Some of us were really good but some of us need practise, so we will definitely revisit rhythms and keeping the beat!

You can tell from the photos that we were really concentrating!
