Mega Maths

Today we had a maths morning which involved us practising and applying the skills we have recently been working on.

At the end of the session, Miss Johnston asked us what had challenged us; most children said they found the shape describing and making challenging, but some children were pleased to practise their partitioning when adding and halving, and recognising simple fractions.  On a very positive note, we are getting much more confident at using our times tables!

Halving - partition and halve the tens and units for a 2 digit numbers, then the hundreds, tens and units for 3 digit numbers.

Quick multiplication!  Pick 2 dominoes to generate the numbers to multiply.  We worked on the language - 'lots of' and 'multiplied by'.

We used plasticine to make 3D shapes. We had to describe the properties of the shapes carefully to  help us make the correct shapes; we used the vocabulary edge, face, surface and vertex/vertices.

Adding 3 numbers; to make it easier, we changed the calculation in 2 numbers. Some of us remembered to make n approximation first!
