| We dressed up as soldiers - this shield was heavy and strong to protect soldiers' bodies. |

| We listened to clues to work out who lived and worked in a castle. |

| The servants would have needed to fetch water from a very deep well. The water would have been very dirty! People didn't drink it - they only drank wine and beer! They ate fish, meat and bread. They only ate fruit in pies! |

| A servant brought food from the kitchen to the feasts in the great hall. |

| Knights would have guarded the castle from invaders. |

| There would have been a Lady of the castle. |

| The Lord of the castle would have been in charge. |

| The door to the castle was very big, thick and strong. A piece of timber was placed behind he door to strengthen it. It also would have had an iron gate in front of it. It had iron bolts in the door so if an invader struck it with his axe, the axe head would have got stuck and broken off! |

| On the roof the knights ad soldiers would have aimed arrows down onto their enemies. They would have also thrown rocks and hot oil! From the roof of the castle you can see up to 25 miles away, so they would have had plenty of warning if enemies were coming to attack! |

| Going up the spiral stairs. The knights used their right hand to hold their weapons with and were able to attack any invaders successfully. The invaders would have struck the walls with their axe as it was spiral shaped. |

We wrote down some questions about castles before we went; lots were answered, but we are going to use books and computers to find out more, before we write our own information booklet/page about castles.
