We started the morning with a special visit from Mrs Garwood. She had lived and worked in India for some time and very kindly offered to come in and talk to us. We heard all about the children she worked with, the houses they lived in, and their healthcare. Mrs Garwood helped to vaccinate some of the young children to protect them from disease.
We then looked at Google Earth. We found the UK and then went on to look at India. We compared Kelvedon to a city in India.
In the afternoon we learnt about Indian dress. We learnt that women wear Saris and Sikh men wear a turban. Mrs Garwood also showed us some other examples of typical Indian clothes which she had brought back from India with her.
We made our own print Sari fabric and then we had a go at wrapping ourselves in Saris and turbans. It was great fun! See some of the pictures below. We will keep you updated on what else we get up to in the week...
We tried making our own turbans and saris.
These are some of our prints.
Here are some examples of the beautiful fabrics which we have seen.
