The Buddha

We have been extending our learning about religious beliefs to Islam and Buddhism.
Yesterday we learnt about the Buddha and why he is a special person and teacher to Buddhists.  We used artefacts and videos to help us learn.  Miss Johnston was very proud at how respectful and thoughtful we were.

We looked at a statue of the Buddha and noticed what was special about him.  Ollie said looking at the Buddha made him feel calm and quiet.

We made our own Buddha statues using plasticine.  We thought carefully about the position of the hands on our Buddhas, as they can be different as they mean different things.

We made Origami Lotus flowers, a symbol of Buddhism.

We played 'Know One, Get One' which involved us sharing facts about Buddhism for our fact files.

We had a go at meditating, trying to be calm and peaceful, emptying our mind.  This is what the Buddha taught Buddhists to do in order to achieve 'perfect peace' or 'enlightenment'.
