| Double 5 is 10 so half of 10 is... |
| What do we double to make 14? What is half of 14? We used Numicon to help us. |
e.g double 43 is 86 (double the tens which is 80 and then the units which is 6)
Do the inverse for halving
e.g half of 42 is 21 (half of 40 is 20 then half of 2 is 1)
We are even halving odd numbers!
We have started to learn about multiplying, or finding 'lots of'. We rolled a dice and got that number of 2p, 5p or 10p coins and added them up. It was too long a calculation so we used the x sign to show we had __ lots of__.
Some of us realised we could swap the numbers around e.g Michael rolled a 7 and he wrote down 7x2p. He said "it's 14 because double 7 is 14!". We also thought about how to then find lots of 20p and 50p coins, using what we know about the 2 and 5 times table.
